In a nighttime shooting at a Phoenix strip mall, one person was killed and eight others were injured. X: A 14-year-old girl was murdered and eight others were injured in a shooting early Saturday in a strip mall northwest of downtown Phoenix, according to authorities.

After the 1 a.m. gunfire that sent people fleeing between 10th Avenue and Hatcher Road, Sgt. Andy Williams told reporters that nine victims were brought to hospitals. After being carried to the hospital, the 14-year-old girl died; two women have life-threatening injuries, and six have non-life-threatening injuries.

Williams claimed in an interview with ABC 15 that no suspects were identified right away and that no arrests were made as detectives pieced together witness testimony.
After a dispute arose among those gathered for “some sort of gathering,” Williams said it looked like a firearm was deployed.
“As everyone left the location, many shots were fired into this mass of individuals,” he claimed.
According to Williams, the wounded are between the ages of 17 and 24.

The incident occurred about an hour after a teen boy was shot and killed outside his home about three blocks away, according to authorities. It was unclear whether the two shootings were connected at the time.

“Seems we can’t go a day without another mass shooting,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said on Twitter in response to the shooting.
“The clock is ticking,” she said. “Now is the time for change.”
