On Wednesday, Israel’s defense minister pledged a thorough inquiry into the assassination of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and demanded that Palestinian officials hand over the bullet that killed her.
Israel has been in contact with US and Palestinian officials, according to Benny Gantz, who also stated that all aspects of the inquiry would be made public.
While the military initially speculated that Abu Akleh was killed by stray Palestinian fire while covering an Israeli raid in the West Bank, Gantz was more circumspect Wednesday evening. “We’re attempting to figure out what happened exactly…. “I haven’t reached any final conclusions.”
Gantz told reporters, “I am really sorry for what happened.” “Right now, we do.”
