In Taiwan, an ambassador from Somaliland arrived
Mohamed Omar Haji Mohamud has arrived in Taipei, the capital of Tiawan Island, where Somaliland has said it will be its representative in Taiwan.
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister MOFA said she welcomed the government’s relationship with Somaliland, adding that relations between the two countries would be based on mutual interests.
The Chinese government is pressuring Taiwan to cut ties with Somaliland, which is undermining Somalia’s sovereignty.
Somaliland, which seceded from Somalia in 1991, has yet to receive international recognition.
