National Human Rights Commission Rejects Claim of Director General

The National Independent Human Rights Commission has formally rejected the claim by Mr. Mustafa Mahamoud to the position of Director General, describing it as unlawful and inconsistent with Law No. 16 of 27 June 2016 and Article 117 of the Provisional Federal Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

In a press release issued today, the Commission clarified that there is currently no lawfully appointed Director General, and that any such position can only be filled through an open, transparent, and merit-based process in accordance with national law.

The Commission further warned government institutions and the public that no individual who has not been legally appointed can be recognized in that capacity. The full press release is attached.
