The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the regional administrations have met in Mogadishu today to discuss the 20221 elections process.
Members of Puntland and Jubbaland representing these appointed commissions declined to attend conferences in Mogadishu, and expressed skepticism about the administration’s progress in Mogadishu.
Acting Minister of Constitution of the Federal Government of Somalia Salah Ahmed Jama said preliminary meetings were held in Mogadishu to discuss the elections and most of the appointed commissions convened.
Salah Ahmed said he was optimistic that the Dhusamareb conference was scheduled to take place on time, and that efforts were underway to make it happen.
The minister also acknowledged that members of the Jubbaland and Puntland administrations did not attend the meeting of the Technical Committee on the Electoral Process in Mogadishu.
“It is true that we are missing the two members of Jubbaland and Puntland, but we hope they will come to Dhusamareb, so it is an ongoing effort,” he said.
The third phase of the Dhusamareb conference is unlikely to take place as no formal commissions have yet met, with only two days left until the scheduled meeting.
