DOHA: Qatar Charity, a humanitarian and development nongovernmental organization, will repair 326 homes for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. A fire at the Balukhali camp damaged them in March.
The design and building of the dwellings, which will feature two rooms for each family, began on Monday, according to the Qatar News Agency. Local officials commended Qataris for their assistance to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, as well as continued humanitarian work in other refugee camps across the country.
A major fire that broke out on March 5 at the Balukhali camp in Cox’s Bazar displaced over 12,000 refugees, burnt over 2,000 homes, and damaged hospitals and educational facilities.
Qatar Charity previously renovated 537 Rohingya refugee homes in the adjoining Kutupalong camp, which was also ravaged by fire in 2021.
