More details are emerging from a truck bomb that was foiled by the Somali federal government forces on the outskirts of Afgoye district in Lower Shabelle region today.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police station in the capital, Mogadishu.
The operation was carried out on the outskirts of Afgoye district in Lower Shabelle region by the Somali National Army, particularly Gor-Gor.
Officials leading the operation said the vehicle was seized in Walamoy area near Afgoye, and members of al-Shabaab were also killed in the operation.
Ismail Sidow, an al-Shabaab operative in Basro, and three bodyguards were killed by Somali military forces today, officials said.
In recent days, Somali government forces, particularly the military, have been conducting heavy operations against Al-Shabaab in the Shabelle regions, particularly in areas near the capital Mogadishu.
