The Somali National Army (SNA) in an operation in Barire area of Lower Shabelle region has killed an Al Shabaab official.
The operation took place on the outskirts of Barire in the Lower Shabelle region and the Somali National Army killed the head of Al-Shabaab mortars in the region and a number of fighters.
The commander of the 143th Somali National Army, General Ahmed Hassan Siyad, told the radio that the operation was well-planned and that members of Al-Shabaab and the group’s mortar commander were killed.
Dhamme Ahmed Hassan Siyad said the operation killed at least 17 al-Shabaab fighters and the head of the Peace Corps.
Commander Ahmed identified the slain officer as Abu Nur Mukhtar, also known as Gaabshe, who was in charge of security for the detention and firing of mortars.
