The chairman of Hodan district court in Benadir region has rejected the dismissal of Somalia’s Supreme Court chairman Bashe Ahmed Yusuf.

In recent days there has been a legal debate over who has the power to dismiss district court judges.

The ousted chairman, abbreviated as Aabi, argues that he can only be removed from office by the Ministry of Justice, which he said had previously been appointed.

An arrest warrant written by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has been delivered to the office of the Somali Police Force Commander, Gen. Hijaar, according to sources.

In other news, the chairman of the Hodan District Court has written a letter to the Chief Justice.

It is not yet known what caused the rift between the two officials, but it comes at a time when the Somali government is working to strengthen the country’s judicial system, which has been plagued by widespread injustice and corruption in recent years.
