The first instance court in Nugal region has released six of the seven men charged with murder and rape.
The six men, who were acquitted of the charges, have been detained in Garowe Central Prison for more than a year.
The court said an investigation into the seven suspects, using a DNA crime lab, found no evidence of involvement in the killings or rapes.
Relatives of the slain woman rejected the court’s decision to release the six men, saying the case had been neglected and the court had acted unfairly.
The 7th defendant, who has already admitted to involvement in the act, will remain in custody.
A man named Hodan Ahmed Mohamed Shanlayste, who was killed and raped a year ago, has been arrested in Garowe.
