The committee tasked with investigating the August 10 attack inside the Mogadishu Central Prison, met with the caretaker Prime Minister, His Excellency Mahdi Mohamed Guled, today and presented a report on the findings of its investigation.
During its investigation, the commission found that on August 08, 2020, weapons were placed inside the prison and additional ammunition was fired on August 10, 2020, enabling al-Shabaab inmates to carry out attacks inside the prison. . The weapons included pistols and grenades hidden in meat and a bag of lemons
The incident resulted in the arrest of 27 people, including 12 probation officers, including six civilians and nine inmates who took part in the terrorist attack inside the prison.
Arrested officers and probation officers, including the central prison commander and his deputy, are accused of facilitating the attack or neglecting their responsibility to ensure the safety of detainees and other citizens.
The commission stated that since the end of its investigation, the matter has been referred to the Armed Forces Prosecutor.
