GENEVA – UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk asked African countries with clout to help end the conflict in Sudan on Thursday, saying both sides had “trampled” international humanitarian law.
“I take this opportunity to urge all States with influence in the region to encourage, by all possible means, the resolution of this crisis,” Turk said at a Human Rights Council special session in Geneva.
“I strongly condemn this indiscriminate violence in which both sides have violated international humanitarian law, particularly the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution.”
