RIYADH: Tim Lenderking, the United States’ special envoy for Yemen, will visit Saudi Arabia and Oman to promote continuing efforts to negotiate a new accord and initiate a comprehensive peace process in the war-torn country.

Lenderking will meet with Saudi, Yemeni, Omani, and international partners during his Gulf travel to discuss their coordinated efforts to advance ongoing peace talks.

“The United States is working closely with the United Nations, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and other partners to build on the UN-mediated truce, which has delivered the longest period of calm since the war began,” the State Department said.

Yemen first agreed to a two-month truce in April 2022, which was afterwards extended many times. According to UN ambassador for Yemen Hans Grundberg, it is “broadly holding” a year later.
