The US military’s Africa Command, abbreviated as AFRICOM, will have a new commander starting next Tuesday.
The new commander is named General Michael Langley, who became the first black officer in the US Navy to reach the rank of four-star general.
The United States Senate yesterday approved the promotion of General Langley.
AFRICOM Command confirmed that General Langley will take over from General Stephen Townsend next week, August 9, in Stuttgart, Germany.
AFRICOM is assisting the Somali government in the fight against Al-Shabaab, by carrying out airstrikes against the group, as well as providing training to some of the Somali forces
