Gunmen thought to be Al-Shabaab members have assassinated in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Sunday amidst tight security measures imposed on the seaside city.
The shooting took place at Suuq-Ba’ad area located in the capital’s northern volatile Yaqshid district after two men armed with pistols have attacked the soldier while on duty.
The local residents said the killers have immediately escaped from the scene before the arrival of Somali security forces who later conducted a search operation in the area.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the killing, but, police said Al-Shabaab could have been behind the shooting incident in Mogadishu.
The murder of the serviceman was the latest in series of attacks and killings in the city for the past few months as the government has deployed more troops on the main roads.
