Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for last night’s landmine blast in Waberi district of Benadir region, and said the blast targeted a security official.
Al-Shabaab said in a statement that the blast targeted a senior Somali security and intelligence official, killing and wounding several people.
Al-Shabaab said the officer killed in the blast was a security officer who gave his name as Nur, and that soldiers were also wounded in the blast.
“The Mujahideen killed an intelligence officer in Waberi district and wounded two of his bodyguards,” the statement said.
Reports from the Somali capital Mogadishu say that Al-shabab fighters have ambushed a military convoy carrying AMISOM troops near the town of Kismayo in Lower Jubba region.
