The Somali National Army (SNA) says it has killed an al-Shabab official and its allies in an operation near the town of Kuntuwarey in the Lower Shabelle region.
Army officials told the media that the government killed the commander of the target of the operation.
The man killed was abbreviated as Liban, while Al-Shabaab was identified as Yaqub, and was al-Shabaab’s chief of staff in Lower Shabelle, according to the military.
The operation, which was an airstrike, targeted an area where Al-Shabaab militants were planning to attack military bases in the Lower Shabelle region, according to the report.
The Danab Commandos, who recently took control of Kuntuwarey district, have previously said that Al-Shabaab officials and fighters were killed there, as well as civilians who were being held captive.
