He was accompanied on this trip by Romania’s first lady, Carmen Iohannis. Their first stop was at the mausoleum of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, where they were given a rundown of the UAE’s efforts to spread peace and tolerance around the world in the late sheikh’s honor.

A number of high-ranking officials from both countries were present for Iohannis’s trip, including the UAE’s Minister of Climate Change and Environment Mariam bint Mohammed Al-Mheiri, the Romanian Ambassador to the UAE Bogdan Octavian Badica, and the UAE’s Ambassador to Romania Sultan Mohammed Al-Ali.

The president and his delegation were shown around the mosque by its director-general, Dr. Yousif Al-Obaidli, who provided an educational tour and lecture on the mosque’s history, Islamic art, and architecture.

The center gave Iohannis two books: “Spaces of Light,” which features the winning photographs from the award’s namesake photography competition, and “Houses of God,” which discusses Islamic religious buildings like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The guests were also presented with a book that detailed the Islamic art and architecture of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
